I moved to Canada on August 14th, 2008 from Pakistan. There were many reasons for me to move to Canada but the main reason was to learn and experience new and different things. Things that you can use in real life to make your and others life easier and better.

One of the few things that I would like to use to make my life and the lives of others easier and better is to use honesty. By being honest, people will trust me and therefore will develop trust in me and vice versa. For example, once I was coming back from my cousin’s house and my watch fell on the way home. I realized that it was missing when I got to my own house. After finding it missing, I went out to search for it. Luckily while I was searching for it, two people were walking there; and when they saw I was searching for something, they held out my watch and asked me if it belonged to me instead of keeping it. I replied, “Yes”, to them and they returned my possession. I thanked them greatly and was rewarded with smiled and kind words. So by them being honest with me, all of our lives were benefited with this experience. If I had returned home without retrieving my watch, my parents would not have let me buy another one and those people would have had to carry the weight of dishonesty in their hearts.

Another thing that I would like to use in my life one is modesty. By adopting modesty in your ways of life, you will be respected and treated with honour and dignity. For example, if a wealthy and smart individual boasts about their material wealth and their mental intelligence, people will feel that they are of less worth than this person and they will feel self-conscious about themselves. They will lose their self-confidence and will feel poor and unworthy. For instance, when we came to Canada, many of our physical traits were different than the rest of the population such as our accent, way of life, and foods for example. And rather than people making fun of us for our differences and putting us down, they helped us in many ways and we felt welcome and invited and did not feel like outsiders. Here comes the most important reason of all which is the cause of many distasteful events; tolerance. Tolerating other people means you are accepting their way of life and things. For example, if I give way to other people who are trying to turn onto my street from a different road, then I am tolerating them and by my giving way to other people in that street, there will be less waiting, only seconds will be wasted for both of us, and not minutes for that person and everyone else behind that person. Also, people will give me way as well. In other words, it saves in which people can do other things and arrive at their destinations quicker.

With this in mind, I plan to make this world a better place by showing honesty, being modest, and having tolerance of others. I suggest that all individuals make these three character traits part of their daily life. In the end I just want to tell you my motto; you will always get what you give.

“He was a man who was strong in stature, proud, disciplined, in top physical form,” Capt. Normand Cholette “He was a man who sacrificed a lot for others. He leaves us an example to follow.”Michaud; second battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment was seriously injured around 9:15 am Kandahar time June 24.He was on foot patrol when he stepped on an improvised explosive device.

“When people go back to Canada we think everything is OK,” Cholette said after the brief morning ceremony at the battle group headquarters. “So hearing the news was a shock. We are going through a period of mourning.” Michaud was evacuated by helicopter to the coalition hospital at Kandahar Airfield and transported to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in Germany. He arrived in Quebec City on June 28

This was Michaud’s third operational tour, and second in Afghanistan. He is the 122nd Canadian soldier to die as a result of this country’s involvement in the Afghanistan war.

My prediction is that Eliza and Mattie are going to find Mattie’s mother dead at the farm because of early situations she was in when she had the Fever. Her condition was very bad at that time but at the same time grandfather who is dead now saw her a couple of days ago in the coffee house and she was alive. So you really cant think of one straight answer because its like one of those thick quetions. If anyone has other opinions on it please comment. Will be Mattie’s mother dead or alive when they find her?

It was a really nice September day outside full of sunshine and a light breeze filled with excitement. Along with me, my parents, my brother Haroon, my aunt who was given the task of the route-finder in the journey, and my cousins Shehryar and Shireen would come with us in the journey. We decided to set off early in the morning at 7:00 am for Mont Tremblant. First we arranged our baggage and then sat in our seats. My mom sat beside the driving seat at the front where my dad drove. The car was a dodge grand caravan; a seven seater. My aunt sat behind my dad, on her right side was my brother and in the back were me and my cousins eating chips, drinking cola and listening to songs.

On the way we saw many lakes, farms and mountains. Several times we went the wrong way but every time we came back from where we went wrong so it took us about five hours to get there instead of four hours.

We finally got to Mont Tremblant but we still had to drive for about fifteen minutes to get to the hotel that we booked two suites in. It was a village of stunning beauty beside an immense lake, especially in the fall when you can see different shades of colours on every single tree. When we got there we found the parking lot and parked our car, took our baggage and went to the reception of the Western hotel. As soon as we got to the reception my aunt got the keys of our suites for both of us but before we made our way towards our suites we each had a cup of coffee, tea or cappuccino. Afterwards, we freshened up and had lunch together.

After we ate lunch, we explored a bit and then rode the chair lifts. They were very entertaining since we could see all the hotels and buildings that were available in that area. We also took pictures of various things like the mini golf course that was situated in the heart of the village although there were many real golf courses there as well.

After that, we went over to the gondolas. These were like the chair lifts except that they were bigger and went up to a skiing course which began mountain of Mont Tremblant from where all of Mont Tremblant was visible including the local houses and the big lake. The chair lifts were very amusing but these were far more enjoyable than those. When we got to the mountain through the gondolas we hiked and enjoyed the striking scenery for a short period of time then we went to the very top of the mountain where it was a bit colder and took pictures at every angle possible for its astonishing beauty concerned everybody there.

Shortly after we came down that mountain ridding the gondolas again we went to play mini golf. My dad gave the guy on the golf course counter the coupons and the guy on the counter gave us our clubs, golf balls and our scorecards .Me and my cousin Shehryar decided to compete against each other. I had never played golf before so I was slightly nervous. We got to the first out of eighteen holes in the course; a par three. I went first, I concentrated on my own and the club’s position, I held my breath and then took the shot. The ball rolled quickly and then suddenly slowed down to a snail’s pace as it climbed the slope near the hole a bit fast but still slow      enough it descended from the slope and, (I kept my fingers crossed) went in the hole. A stream of joy and confidence rushed through my body. I couldn’t believe it! I did it in one shot. Then my cousin went and did it in two shots. We went like that until we got to hole nine and then calculated the total my cousin was winning because I did very poorly on one hole that was supposed to be easy. After that we played the back nine. I was catching up to my cousin but in the end my cousin won because of the one hole that I didn’t do my best on. We went back to the hotel and had dinner together. After, we went to sleep. Tomorrow it was time to pack up and head back to our homes and to start the daily routine again.

Questioning:

  • When Matties mother was vomiting and throwing up blood at night after Eliza left where was Mattie’s grandfather?

Connection:  My connection’s gonna be on how one of the Ogilive daghters collapsed and died due to yellow fever (a very contagious disease). Couple of days ago on the news they were telling that a boy in Toronto had died due to h1n1 (also a very contagious disease). It all hapened when he went to took a shower, and when he came out of the shower he collapsed and died shortly afterwards.

When I first satrted this book it was very boring but when I read about 4-5 chapters things started to look clearer and it got intresting all of a sudden. At first the book talks about Matilda being very lazy and not doing her chores whereas her mother used to be a perfect girl when she was young. Matilda’s father was dead and she and her mother live with Matilda’s grandfather on top of a coffee shop that they owned and ran. Now Matilda’s mother had a few girls along with Matilda to  help her to run the coffee shop. One morning when Matilda woke up and went downstairs to meet all the other girls they noticed that one girl was missing, her name was Polly. She told her mother and she went to Polly’s house to ask what happened. When her mother came back and sadly told them she died. Later on in the book they talk about yellow fever coming back in the coast area where Polly lived. And when Maatilda asks her mother to go to her funeral she forbided her from it and said that she was not our freind only a servant therefore I noticed some pride in her mother but maybe its for Matilda’s safety so she dosen’t get the fever. If there is one.
